interdisciplinary transmutations of interstitial spaces

Interdisciplinary artists need space. Lots of it. This is not an easy – or cheap –  resource to come by in Seattle. But space is sacred and needed for workshopping, playing, experimentation, shaping, performing, all of it. So when CAM found itself with the keys to a big empty building that was to become our second studio, what we had was space. Big, raw, empty work-in-progress space. CAM is committed to shared resources, and we wanted to begin by connecting this resource with a group that works with joy and fire to manifest art and uplift their community. Enter House of Kilig.

We’re calling this a RAW residency because it is just that – CAM has never had the opportunity to offer workspace to an artist collective. We have a small window where the second space is still an unformed idea – it can take whatever shape its occupants desire. It also speaks to the fact that it is unfinished. We are offering what we can – it’s not the prettiest, it’s not the most polished, but it embodies the spirit of everything CAM has built up to now. That together, we can create flourishing space for one another.

House of Kilig is a Trans + Queer diaspora centered collective that utilizes kapwa and kilig as a compass in pursuit of interdisciplinary art creation, teaching artistry, and community organizing that manifests a world where QT folx across diaspora can thrive.

We have the great pleasure of hosting HOK for an interdisciplinary arts residency, giving them the keys to an empty page. During their residency, HOK will use it as a generative space and host a number of public events and/or workshops.
