What Blooms In The Dark

Common Area Maintenance had the honor of hosting the debut reading for What Blooms in the Dark by Seattle poet Emily J. Mundy, published by Moon Tide Press. The event was nothing short of magical, gathering a community of poets, artists, and poetry lovers in celebration of Emily’s beautifully transformative work.

The night featured readings by Amber Flame, Amy Hirayama, Connor Cash Colbert, Corbin Louis, Dia Roth, Eric Acosta, Jay Aquinas Thompson, Melanie Noel, Rebecca Brown, Sullivan Forderhase, and Theo Williams. Each poet brought their unique voice, contributing to the rich tapestry of the evening with heartfelt performances that echoed the themes of healing, transformation, and spiritual illumination found in Emily’s collection.

Emily J. Mundy, known for her dedication to the mystical nature of language, shared selections from her debut manuscript that trace a journey through darkness toward light. The poems explore generational trauma, cycles of nature, and the power of love to heal and transform. It was an honor to witness her words come alive, inviting us into a space of reflection and renewal.

The evening was further elevated by the soulful piano performance of artist Ran Park, whose music filled the room with emotion, providing a resonant soundscape for the poetry. Guests arrived adorned in spectacular outfits and thoughtful adornments, adding to the intentional and celebratory atmosphere.

Emily, who also curates The Poetry Séance, a quarterly series that enlivens local poetry events, shared her belief in the healing and transformative power of writing. It was a truly special night, where the veil felt thin, allowing us all to connect deeply through the shared experience of words, music, and community.
